About Ruskin

Ruskin is an unincorporated community in south-central Hillsborough County. It was founded on August 7, 1908, on the north side of the Little Manatee River by Dr. George McAnelly Miller and his wife, Addie Dickman Miller, who founded its post office. The community is named after the English writer and social critic John Ruskin. Miller also started Ruskin College, which closed around World War I, and the A. P. Dickman House, finished in 1910, still stands from the town's early years.

Ruskin borders Apollo Beach to the north and Sun City Center to the east. U.S. Route 41 runs through the center of town, and Interstate 75 runs along its eastern edge, with access at Exit 240 (State Road 674/College Avenue). The Ruskin Tomato Festival began in 1935 and honors the area's farming heritage. The Firehouse Cultural Center hosts arts programs in a former Hillsborough County fire station.
