About Parrish

Parrish is an unincorporated community in northern Manatee County, centered near the intersection of U.S. Route 301 and State Road 62. In 1868 the land was sold to Crawford Parrish, a rancher and orange grower from Georgia, and the community is named for him. A post office opened in 1879 under the spelling "Parish," and the official spelling returned to "Parrish" in 1950.

The Seaboard Air Line Railroad built the first rail line through Manatee County in the early 1900s, and today the Florida Railroad Museum runs weekend excursion trains on part of that line between Parrish and Willow. Parrish is also near the Manatee River: Rye Preserve and Fort Hamer Park are access points on the Upper Manatee River paddling trail, and Fort Hamer Park sits across from the historic site of Fort Hamer, built in 1849-1850.
