Homes for sale and local insight in Apollo Beach.
Apollo Beach is an unincorporated community in Hillsborough County on the eastern shore of Tampa Bay. The land was owned by the Dickman family and used for farming and grazing from 1923. The waterfront community was first platted as "Tampa Beach," renamed "La Vida Beach" in 1957, and by local tradition named Apollo Beach in 1958 at the suggestion of Dorothy Corr.
The community borders Tampa Bay to the west, and a network of residential canals leads out to the bay. U.S. Route 41 runs through the center of Apollo Beach, and Interstate 75 passes through its eastern side with access from Exit 246. Tampa Electric's Big Bend Power Station sits on the shoreline, and its warm-water discharge canal draws manatees in cooler months to the Manatee Viewing Center.
